BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — There are a lot of job openings across the Treasure Valley.
As you search for the one that fits you best, the Ada County Highway District hopes you'll consider what it has to offer.
Amber Morales said she's excited about the work happening at ACHD.
"I've worked on so many different projects," Morales said. "I have met so many people, I can see projects I have worked on coming to life and it has been a great joy."
It's a department with great responsibility.
"We're maintaining the roads for the people of Ada County," said Brian Rapp, lead worker at ACHD.
ACHD handles short-range planning, construction, maintenance and improvements to streets in the county and needs a lot of workers.
Shari Knauss, deputy director of human resources, says one of her department's biggest roles is hiring.
"Right now, one of our primary openings is in our maintenance division for general equipment operators," Knauss said. "As our community is growing we’re looking for more team members to help support our mission here at the Ada County Highway District."
ACHD hopes to find employees who are passionate about their work.
"I get to talk to people on a regular basis, I get to work with the city, I get to work with property owners, I get to work with everyone at ACHD," Morales said.
Or Rapp, who's been with the district for nine years.
"It’s so nice to come here and do something almost different every single day," he said.
The department is looking for people in a wide variety of roles.
"To drive dump trucks, to drive equipment around during snow to help citizens get rid of snow, chip seal operations, we need drivers, we need construction workers, who know the background of construction," Rapp said.
ACHD says all new employees receive training to set them up for success.
"When people come here, we offer all sorts of training that will give them an opportunity to excel. Not only in the position they’re in, but also a new position down the road," Knauss said.
ACHD also says it offers competitive benefits including a 401k program, paid holidays and 12-week paid maternity and paternity leave.
"We have a great medical and dental program, with low deductibles and reasonable premiums," Knauss said. "We are also part of the public employee's retirement system of Idaho so that offers a great retirement benefit."
Amber says some of the other perks include working with the communities in Ada County.
"North End Boise is different than what Eagle looks like. They all have different identities and having the public input to make sure we are giving them that... is beautiful."
While Rapp points out there is a lot of reward in the work they get to do.
"I don’t know how many times we’re out there chip sealing or paving a road and we get done and hey, we just did all of that work," Rapp said.
For Shari, and the HR team, they're looking for team members who want to support the community.
"Someone that wants to work in an environment with a team and want to be able to give back to the community," Knauss said
And if you're lucky -- you may just find a place you want to work for the rest of your career.
